A Victorian green leather-clad document or dispatch box of rectangular form. The exterior features a recessed brass carrying handle set into the lid and a shield-shaped brass escutcheon to the front. The interior is lined with matching green leather featuring gold-line tooling. The underside of the lid is fitted with a leather strap containing two accessories, comprising a flat bone or celluloid paper knife and a stylus. The interior leather is gold-stamped with the registration mark Rd 173369. The main body of the box contains a set of tiered, notched dividers designed for paper organisation.
Condition report:
The box shows age-appropriate wear throughout. The exterior leather exhibits surface dust and minor abrasions, particularly to the edges. There are two small adhesive labels present on the exterior lid. The interior leather and fittings remain in good order with light signs of use consistent with age.
