A late 19th or early 20th-century salt-glazed stoneware flagon of cylindrical form. The vessel features a cream-coloured body with a contrasting tan-brown glaze to the shoulder, neck, and strap handle. The shoulder bears a black transfer-printed merchant mark for Thomsons, with locations listed as Barrow, Ulverston, Kendal, and Lancaster. This type of utilitarian pottery was commonly produced in North West England for the storage of spirits, beer, or cider.


Condition report:

The item exhibits wear consistent with age and functional use. There are minor chips to the rim and shoulder area. Surface crazing is visible across the glaze. The piece shows general soiling and retains two modern adhesive auction labels.
