The instrument is mounted on a shield-shaped wooden plaque and set within a metal horseshoe-shaped surround. The circular silvered dial is housed behind glass and provides atmospheric pressure readings in inches and millibars. The dial features weather descriptors such as Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry in a Gothic-style typeface, along with dual-color forecasting instructions for rising and falling pressure. The face is marked British Made Instrument and Made in England, and includes both British and USA patent numbers.
