Lot 546: A Victorian Style Diamond Set Marquise Cluster Ring in a Box for Edward and Sons Ltd
A diamond set cluster ring featuring a navette or marquise shaped head. The head is pavé set with approximately twenty-five to thirty round cut diamonds, featuring a mixture of old European and early brilliant cuts. The stones are set into a white metal face, mounted upon a yellow metal shank. The shank is of D-section form with split shoulders. The ring is presented in a period jeweler’s box with a blue velvet and silk interior. The interior of the box lid features a printed silk lining with a literal transcription reading Edward & Sons Ltd, JEWELLERS, 92 BUCHANAN STREET, Glasgow. The yellow metal shank does not show any visible hallmarks or stamps in the provided images.
Condition report:
The ring shows signs of light wear consistent with age, with minor surface scratches visible on the yellow metal shank (photo 2). The diamond cluster appears intact, though some stones show surface grime or natural inclusions characteristic of antique cuts (photo 1). The presentation box shows yellowing and foxing to the silk lining and typical wear to the velvet insert (photo 1). The exterior of the box shows minor scuffing to the edges. No hallmarks are visible to confirm metal purity; testing is recommended.
