Lot 226: An Assortment of Earthenware and Porcelain Tea and Kitchenware
A collection of ceramic household items comprising both earthenware and porcelain pieces. The lot features a tall, cylindrical earthenware jar decorated with hand-painted pink roses and yellow floral motifs against a cream ground with a green-glazed rim. Also included is a rectangular earthenware tray finished with a vibrant hand-painted design of blue and yellow sunflowers against a green foliate background and a dark blue border. Several cream-coloured earthenware mugs are present, characterised by dark brown horizontal banding. A yellow and green glazed teapot displays hand-painted floral details on the lid. The porcelain components include several white-glazed teapots, notably one with a silver-tone metal handle and stand, and a small white creamer with a gilt rim. A variety of teacups and saucers are decorated with delicate purple and blue floral transfer patterns. An earthenware crock or bowl features a mustard-yellow rim. The collection shows various decorative techniques, including hand-painting, transfer printing, and banded glazing. An orange adhesive label is visible on the corner of the black cardboard box containing the items, though the characters are not clearly legible as a maker name.
Condition report:
The items are stored loose in cardboard boxes and exhibit signs of surface wear consistent with use and storage. Small chips are visible on the rims of the brown-banded mugs (photo 1). Crazing is evident in the glaze of the yellow floral teapot (photo 1). General surface scratching and minor wear to the gilding are present on the porcelain pieces (photo 1). The rectangular floral tray shows minor edge wear and loss to the blue glaze on the border (photo 1). Some items exhibit dust and residue from long-term storage.
