Lot 366: A Five-Way Jointed Mohair Bisson Bear by Gail Thornton
A traditionally designed and handmade collector’s teddy bear featuring a five-way jointed construction of the head, arms, and legs. The bear is crafted from long-pile shaggy mohair in a light beige tone. It features a distinctive shaved muzzle with a dark brown hand-embroidered nose and mouth, complemented by two dark plastic or glass eyes. The paw pads are finished in a tan faux-suede or felt material with dark brown embroidered claw detailing. A rectangular paper label is attached to the fur, featuring a printed border with red and black corner blocks. The label is printed with the text B I S S O N B E A R S next to a sketch of a seated teddy bear, and traditionally designed and handmade collectors bears by Gail Thornton.
Condition report:
The bear is in good overall condition. There is minor matting to the mohair fur consistent with handling (photo 1). The paper label shows some foxing and small brown spots of discoloration (photo 2). A small orange adhesive price sticker is present on the right foot pad (photo 1).
