Lot 359: A Snug-A-Bug-A-Lee Bear Jointed Artist Teddy Bear by AGM
A handmade artist teddy bear featuring a five-way jointed construction, allowing for movement of the head, arms, and legs. The bear is crafted from a long-pile plush in a vibrant rust orange tone, contrasted by black plush pads on the paws and feet, and black plush inner ears. The face is detailed with two black glass or plastic safety eyes and a hand-stitched nose and mouth in black yarn. A white fabric label is sewn onto the black plush of the right foot. The label displays a blue graphic of a curled-up cat followed by the text A SNUG-ABUG-A-LEE BEAR, and on the line below in script, Handmade by AGM. An orange adhesive price sticker reading 359 is attached to the black plush of the same foot above the manufacturer label. While web results suggest similarities to mass-produced brands, the sewn-in label confirms this as a specific artist-made piece by A.G.M.
Condition report:
The bear is in good displayed condition. The rust-coloured plush exhibits a matted, textured appearance consistent with the intentional distressed aesthetic of artist-made bears (photo 1). The stitching on the snout and the jointing appear secure (photo 1). The manufacturer label is clean and legible (photo 2). There are no visible tears, losses to the plush, or significant wear to the black pads.
