A natural history specimen consisting of a rectangular mass of dense green moss interspersed with yellowed, dried grass stems. The organic material is held at one end by a primitive, heavy-gauge iron bracket. The iron frame is U-shaped, constructed from thick flat bars secured with iron bolts, and exhibits a heavily textured, oxidised surface. The metal shows significant surface corrosion and pitting throughout. The organic component forms a thick, tufted bed with loose grass stems extending irregularly from the main body. A white rectangular adhesive label is present on the upper metal bar, and a small orange adhesive label is attached to the lower metal bracket; both are contemporary process stickers. No maker’s marks, signatures, or historical inscriptions are visible on the object.
Condition report:
The item is in a weathered and raw state. The iron frame shows heavy rusting and surface pitting across all visible surfaces (photo 1). The moss appears dormant and dry, with significant shedding of the brittle, dried grass stems which extend beyond the frame (photo 1). There are no visible signs of structural failure to the metal components, though the organic matter is loose and fragile.
