Lot 205: A Collection of Art Deco Style and Novelty Tablewares Together with Clear Pressed Glass Serving Pieces
A mixed group of ceramic and glass tablewares. The collection includes a ceramic jug featuring an angular Art Deco form with a square rim and a stepped handle trimmed in green. The body is decorated with hand-painted floral motifs of purple, orange, and yellow tulips, and the rim is detailed with a black dashed pattern. Also included is a novelty ceramic mug with a silver-toned luster rim, featuring a transfer print of a fisherman being swallowed by a large yellow fish, accompanied by the red text THE ANGLERS PRAYER. A further ceramic cup with a transfer-printed floral and berry pattern is partially present. The glass items consist of a large clear pressed-glass serving dish shaped as a leaf with molded vein details and a scalloped edge, a small oval pressed-glass dish featuring a geometric star and cane pattern on the underside, and portions of cut or pressed-glass stemware with radial star patterns on the bases. An orange adhesive price label reading 205 is attached to the tulip jug and the leaf dish, and a white price label reading 25 25 is attached to the leaf dish. No maker’s marks or backstamps are visible on the surfaces shown.
Condition report:
The items are in fair condition. The novelty mug shows significant wear and loss to the silver-toned luster on the rim and minor surface abrasions to the transfer-printed illustration (photo 1). The tulip-decorated jug exhibits fine crazing to the glaze, consistent with age (photo 1). No major chips or cracks are visible to the glass serving pieces or the ceramic items in the provided images (photos 1 and 2).
