A pair of contrasting metalware pieces. The first is a large, shallow circular pan or bowl of wrought construction, likely iron. The vessel features a rolled rim and two D-shaped handles secured to the exterior with large rivets. The interior base and sides exhibit evidence of manual shaping. There are three large, impressed circular marks located on the upper interior wall; one contains the numeral 1, the second contains the numeral 0, and the third is partially obscured and illegible as a specific character or name. The second item is a circular decorative charger or plate, cast in a grey metal alloy, possibly pewter. The central medallion is decorated in high relief with a scene depicting a standing female figure in 17th-century style dress holding a basket, accompanied by a seated figure in an outdoor or garden setting. The wide rim is finished with a repeating embossed border of floral and foliate motifs. A piece of white cotton string is tied through two holes at the upper rim of the plate for display. No maker names or origin marks are legible on either piece.
Condition report:
The large iron pan shows significant surface oxidation, encrustation, and pitting throughout both the interior and exterior surfaces (photo 1). There are areas of surface loss and a dark, multi-toned patina consistent with utilitarian use and age. The pewter charger exhibits a dark grey, aged patina with areas of white oxidation and surface scratching across the relief and the rim (photo 1). The rim shows minor irregular indentations.
