A British lead-glazed earthenware vase of squat, globular form with a short, flared neck. The exterior is finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze and decorated with a single large Clematis bloom. The decoration is executed using the tubelining technique, creating raised outlines that define the petals and leaves, which are filled with polychrome glazes in varying shades of plum, mauve, blue, and green. The underside of the vase features an impressed mark consisting of the name MOORCROFT in capital letters. Below this, the words MADE IN ENGLAND are also impressed into the ceramic body. A small, hand-painted mark in green pigment, resembling a hook or the letter c, is visible on the inner foot rim. An orange adhesive price label reading 176 is applied to the front of the vase over the floral motif. A wooden ruler appears in the background of the first image, but as it is not placed against the object to provide a specific measurement of its height or width, no dimensions are provided.
Condition report:
The vase displays significant and uniform surface crazing throughout the glazed areas, particularly prominent on the underside and around the neck (photo 2). The unglazed foot rim shows surface dirt and expected shelf wear (photo 2). No chips, cracks, or evidence of restoration are visible in the provided photographs.
