Lot 149: R. Gossop London Underground Map Reproduction Poster
A framed reproduction poster featuring a decorative geographic map of the London Underground originally designed by R. Gossop in 1926. The print is a modern giclée reproduction on white paper, presenting a rectangular map image surrounded by a stylized red and cream geometric border. The map illustrates a complex network of multi-coloured transit lines superimposed over a detailed street plan of London. Centrally placed below the map is the large-format text 1926 Tube map designed by R. Gossop, followed by a secondary line reading A decorative, geographic Underground map, no attempt was made to depict the full network. The bottom right corner features the iconic red and blue Underground roundel logo and the words Transport for London. The bottom centre bears the text MAYOR OF LONDON. A vertical copyright notice along the right edge of the map image reads ©Transport for London 2006. The poster is housed in a dark wood frame under glass.
Condition report:
The print is in good condition with no visible signs of foxing, toning, or fading (photo 1). The paper appears crisp and clean. The wooden frame shows minor surface wear and light scuffing consistent with handling (photo 1). No visible cracks or damage to the glazing.
