Lot 130: A Collection of Antique and Vintage Copper and Brass Tea Kettles
A collection of copper tea kettles of varying forms and sizes, primarily constructed from heavy-gauge sheet copper with brazed seams. The assortment includes traditional British styles, featuring gooseneck spouts and fixed overhead handles. Several examples incorporate brass components, including lid finials and handle supports. The handles are constructed with either copper or brass struts supporting wooden or metal grips. One kettle features a distinctive textured green finish to the upper body, while others show typical copper and brass patination. No maker names are readable on the bodies or bases of the vessels. A yellow adhesive label is present on one handle reading 130 and another handle bears a white adhesive label with the handwritten numbers 2 and 5.
Condition report:
The collection is in aged, used condition. Heavy surface oxidation and tarnish are visible across all pieces, notably significant green verdigris to the shoulder of one kettle (photo 1). Scattered dents are present on the soft copper bodies and spouts. There is soot accumulation and heavy wear to the undersides and bases. The wooden grips show surface wear, cracking, and loss of finish. One kettle lid is missing its finial (photo 1).
