Lot 129: A Collection of English Traditional Cast Brass Candlesticks and a Brass Table Lamp
An assortment of cast brass candlesticks together with a brass table lamp, reflecting traditional English metalware designs. The collection includes several pairs and individual pieces featuring varied silhouettes such as stepped square bases, scalloped petal bases, and circular multi-stepped bases. The stems are executed with classic turning techniques, incorporating baluster, tapered, and ring-turned forms. The table lamp is constructed from tubular brass with a curved support leading to a central upright socket fitted with an incandescent bulb. The lamp includes a white electrical cord and a red rocker switch located on the socket. No maker’s names or hallmarks are readable on the visible surfaces of the items. One candlestick nozzle contains a white adhesive label reading 25.
Condition report:
The brass items exhibit a natural aged patina with surface oxidation and tarnish throughout (photo 1). Several candlestick nozzles show residual wax deposits in green and white (photo 1). There are scattered surface scratches and minor dings consistent with age and domestic handling. The electrical wiring for the lamp is vintage and will require professional inspection and testing by a qualified electrician to ensure compliance with modern safety standards before use.
