Lot 66: Victorian Copper and Brass Tea Kettle
A Victorian hearth or range tea kettle constructed from sheet copper with brazed seams. The kettle features a tapering body, a curved gooseneck spout, and a fitted domed copper lid surmounted by a cast brass acorn finial. The overhead fixed handle is formed of cast brass side brackets supporting a tubular brass grip, secured to the body with shaped copper-riveted brass plates. The exterior retains an unpolished surface patina with visible oxidation and historic hearth discolouration. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible.
Condition report:
Overall condition is consistent with age and domestic hearth use. Surface wear includes widespread oxidation, areas of verdigris, tarnishing, and fire-darkening to the lower copper body as shown in the primary photograph. Minor scattered surface pitting and small abrasions are visible across the copper and brass surfaces. There are no apparent splits or major structural dents visible.
