A collection of vintage wooden items featuring geometric Art Deco design influences. The primary piece is a smoker’s companion box constructed with burr wood and contrasting veneers. This box features a central hinged lid that opens to reveal a square, light-blue glass ashtray insert. The main body is flanked by two fold-out compartments with scalloped wooden interiors designed to hold cigarettes. Below the central compartment are two small drawers, each decorated with inlaid geometric banding and fitted with red spherical pulls.
Also included is a stepped wooden desk stand or inkwell base, constructed from two-tone woods including oak and a darker mahogany-coloured timber. The stand features a central rectangular compartment with a hinged lid decorated with a dark-inlaid border. The collection further comprises a long, rectangular wooden cribbage board with multiple peg holes arranged in three tracks, a small hexagonal wooden pot with a turned lid knob, and several framed items including a miniature portrait and a silhouette. The items are finished with various clear lacquers or varnishes highlighting the natural grain of the timber. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the surfaces of these objects.
Condition report:
The items show general signs of age and domestic use. The burr wood smoker\'s box has surface wear and light scratches to the finish, particularly on the top and edges (photo 1). The glass ashtray insert appears intact without visible chips or cracks (photo 2). The stepped desk stand shows minor scuffing to the edges of the base and light dust accumulation in the crevices (photo 3). The cribbage board and hexagonal pot exhibit minor surface abrasions consistent with handling (photo 1). The metal hinges on the smoker\'s box show some oxidation but remain functional (photo 2).
