Lot 40: A Pair of Tilley Pressurized Paraffin Table Lamps

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A pair of pressurized paraffin table lamps constructed from spun metal with glass chimneys. The lamps feature two different finishes: one font possesses a dark copper-toned patina, while the other has a matte silver-toned finish. Both lamps are equipped with burner assemblies including control valves and pump handles. The dark-toned lamp includes a circular metal wire gallery frame, designed to support a separate shade. The silver-toned font features a visible embossed circular mark on its side. Within this circular logo, the characters T, I, L, L, E, and Y are readable, spelling the maker name Tilley. Each lamp is fitted with a clear glass chimney that tapers toward the top with a flared rim. Small white adhesive labels with the handwritten number 99 and small orange adhesive labels are present on the glass chimneys.

Condition report:

Both lamps show signs of heavy use and age-related wear. The dark-toned font exhibits significant surface oxidation, including areas of green verdigris near the base and neck (photo 1). The silver-toned font shows a matte, pitted surface texture across the body. The burner assemblies on both units are heavily soot-stained and show surface rust (photo 1). The metal wire gallery on the dark lamp shows surface tarnishing. Both glass chimneys appear intact without major cracks, though they show surface grime and minor fleabites at the rims. The mechanical components, including the pump handles and valves, show surface wear and have not been tested for functional pressure or leaks.
