Lot 15: Cast Metal Station Master Railway Totem Style Wall Sign
A heavy-duty cast metal wall sign in the form of a British Railways departmental totem. The sign features a bi-level, elongated oval shape with a textured, pebbled ground. The central raised text reads STATION MASTER in capital letters, finished in white paint against a dark brown background. This colour scheme is characteristic of the British Railways Western Region. The sign is constructed with two integral pre-drilled mounting holes, one at each rounded end. The reverse of the sign is not visible. A small orange rectangular adhesive label is present on the upper border, bearing the handwritten number 15.
Condition report:
The sign is in good overall condition. There are minor instances of paint loss and surface wear to the raised white lettering, notably on the letter M (photo 1). The white painted border shows light scuffing and small chips to the paint, particularly along the outer edges (photo 1). The brown textured background appears well-preserved with some light surface dust accumulated in the recesses. The casting is solid with no visible cracks or structural damage to the mounting points.
