Lot 527: A vernacular wooden corner chair with woven cord seat
A vernacular wooden corner chair of traditional country design, constructed from a dark-stained hardwood with visible peg joinery. The chair features a triangular seat frame fitted with a woven natural fibre cord seat in a geometric pattern. The backrest is composed of two curved horizontal rails supported by three upright posts, with one post continuing down to form the rear corner leg. The chair stands on four turned legs interconnected by simple stretchers. One of the backrest uprights bears two adhesive inventory labels: an orange rectangular sticker reading 627 and a white rectangular label below it reading 44 on the top line and 17 on the bottom line.
Condition report:
The chair is in fair, used condition. The woven cord seat shows significant sagging and loss of tension from use (photo 1). The wooden frame displays widespread scuffing, scratches, and finish wear, particularly to the top of the backrest and the legs (photo 1). Numerous small white splatters are visible across the lower legs and seat frame, and there is a general accumulation of surface grime throughout (photo 1).
