Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A collection of volumes of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Eleventh Edition. The volumes are bound in publisher’s dark navy cloth with decorative gilt-stamped borders and corner devices. Each front board features a double gilt-ruled border with four corner emblems, including a cross patty and a heraldic shield containing the Greek letters Alpha and Omega. The title is stamped in gilt along the vertical edge of the board reading ENCYCLOPAEDIA BRITANNICA, ELEVENTH EDITION. The books are in a quarto format with age-toned text blocks.

Condition report:

The collection exhibits significant shelf wear and signs of age. There is prominent fraying and cloth loss at the corners and at the head and tail of the spines (photo 1). The cloth boards show surface scuffing, rubbing, and general dust soiling from storage. The gilt remains relatively bright but shows some minor rubbing. A crumpled green paper bookmark is present between the pages of one volume.
