Lot 588: L.S. Lowry (British, 1887-1976) 'Market Scene' Needlework Tapestry
A framed needlework tapestry reproducing the painting ‘Market Scene’ by L.S. Lowry. The scene depicts a bustling industrial market populated with numerous stylized figures in coats and hats, some accompanied by dogs and prams, gathered around three dark-framed market stalls. The background features industrial architecture, including a prominent two-storey red-brick building with multiple chimneys, flanked by smokestacks and a church spire under a pale sky. The work is executed in a muted palette of greys, greens, and blues using a needlepoint or cross-stitch technique. The textile is presented in a dark-stained wooden frame with a rounded profile. A white circular adhesive label marked with the numeral 1 is attached to the top right corner of the glazing. A rectangular orange adhesive label marked 588 is located in the bottom right corner.
