Lot 309: A Collection of Vintage Brass Hearth Accessories and a Soldering Tool
A collection of vintage brass and metalware items. The group includes a circular brass trivet with an openwork geometric pattern of concentric circles and intersecting arcs, supported by three small integral feet. A single brass candlestick features a baluster-form stem and a circular stepped base. Domestic hearth accessories include a pair of scissor-action fireplace tongs with curved grips and a fire shovel with a tapered rectangular blade. The collection further contains a large vintage soldering tool with a heavy wedge-shaped metal head on a long shaft with a brass handle, and one additional separate brass handle. A small white adhesive label reading 5 is affixed to the shaft of the soldering tool. The interior wall of the cardboard box displays two white adhesive labels printed with the number 25. No maker names, hallmarks, or country of origin marks are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and domestic use. All brass components exhibit surface tarnish and oxidation (photo 1). The soldering tool shows heavy surface corrosion and dark patination on the metal shaft (photo 1). The fire shovel blade has surface wear and darkening from previous exposure to heat (photo 1).
