A pair of vintage hand-woven wicker utility baskets of varied form. The first is a rectangular market-style basket constructed from natural brown willow with a horizontal weave. It features a fixed, high-arched central handle partially bound in a teal-coloured plastic wrap, which is secured at the base transitions by dark green wicker bands. The second item is a shallow oval tray basket with integrated loop handles at each end, featuring a radiating sunburst weave pattern to the base. On the handle of the rectangular basket, there is a small orange rectangular adhesive label bearing the handwritten characters 295 and a small white square adhesive label bearing the number 2.
Condition report:
Both baskets show a significant accumulation of dust and surface dirt within the crevices of the weave (photo 1). The rectangular basket displays several broken and frayed wicker strands along the top rim and internal base (photo 1). The teal plastic handle wrapping shows minor surface scuffing and wear (photo 3). The oval basket exhibits fraying to the wicker strands and general fading to the natural material throughout (photo 2).
