Lot 294: A Wicker Suitcase Style Picnic Hamper with a Coordinated Tableware Set
A vintage wicker picnic hamper of rectangular suitcase form, featuring a two-tone brown woven exterior. The hamper is fitted with two carrying handles and a central tan leather fastening strap with a metal turn-lock clasp. The interior is lined with a red and white gingham fabric and includes tan leather straps to secure a set of coordinated tableware. The tableware set comprises white mugs, clear plates, tumblers, and wine glasses, all decorated with a frosted grape and vine motif, along with a set of cutlery featuring white handles. On the exterior front, a small white rectangular adhesive label reads 1 1 and a small orange rectangular adhesive label reads 294. No manufacturer name or marks are legible on the basket or its contents.
Condition report:
The wicker exterior shows areas of minor fraying and light losses to the weave, particularly around the edges and lid (photo 2). The tan leather fastening strap and handles exhibit surface wear, creasing, and light cracking consistent with age and use (photo 2). The metal clasp shows minor tarnishing. The interior gingham lining and leather securing straps appear to be in generally good condition with no significant staining or damage visible (photo 1). The glassware and mugs show no visible chips or cracks.
