AUGUST AUCTION

Lot 267: An Assortment of Ladies Sinamay and Woven Straw Occasion Hats

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

An assortment of ladies formal occasion hats, likely dating from the late 20th century, constructed from traditional millinery materials including woven straw and sinamay abaca fiber. The collection is presented in a storage box with tissue paper.

The foreground item is a wide-brimmed hat made from pink woven sinamay. It features a structured cylindrical crown and a flat brim. The hat is decorated with a wide champagne-gold metallic ribbon band and a large, multi-loop architectural bow at the side, accented with fine spray feathers.

A classic boater-style hat in natural-toned woven straw is situated to the left. It has a flat crown and a stiff flat brim, finished with a cream-coloured grosgrain ribbon band.

To the right background is an ivory or cream-coloured sinamay hat with a rounded crown and a wide brim. It features a large, structured self-fabric bow detail on the side.

Partially visible in the centre background is a smaller style, appearing to be a pillbox or small-brimmed hat in ivory fabric or fine straw.

No maker labels, signatures, or marks are visible on the items or the packaging in the provided image.

Condition report:

The hats appear to be in good vintage condition. There is minor misshaping and undulation to the brims of the sinamay hats, particularly visible on the pink and cream examples, which is consistent with storage and the flexible nature of the abaca fiber (photo 1). The woven structures appear intact with no significant fraying, breaks, or losses. The feather accents on the pink hat are well-preserved. No visible staining, foxing, or significant soiling is evident to the visible surfaces.
