Lot 257: A Trio of Artworks including a 'Gladstone' Locomotive Print and Marc Chagall 'The Feathers in Flowers'
A technical lithographic print of a steam locomotive, inscribed ‘LONDON BRIGHTON AND SOUTH COAST RAILWAY No. 214 – ‘Gladstone”. The print features detailed text including ‘Built at Brighton Works in 1882’ and ‘Designed by W. Stroudley’. Extensive technical specifications for the engine and tender are printed below the illustration, including data for ‘HEATING SURFACE’, ‘WEIGHT IN WORKING ORDER’, and ‘WATER CAPACITY’. The locomotive is finished in yellow livery with the names ‘GLADSTONE’ and ‘214’ visible. It is housed in a simple black frame under glass. A rectangular orange adhesive label reading ‘257’ and two small white adhesive labels reading ’15’ are present on the glass.

Condition report:
All items show signs of age-related toning and yellowing to the paper supports (photo 1). The \'Gladstone\' locomotive print exhibits scattered foxing and dark spotting across the background (photo 1). The unframed fairy illustration shows minor wear and rounding to the corners of the mount board (photo 1). Surface marks and light abrasions are visible to the wooden frames (photo 1).
