A representational triple portrait of three young girls, executed in pastel and coloured chalk on toned grey paper. The subjects are depicted from the chest up against a mottled blue-grey background. On the left is a girl with long blonde hair and a pensive expression wearing a blue ruffled collar. In the centre is a younger child with shoulder-length brown hair and a straight fringe in a blue collared garment. On the right, an older girl with feathered brown hair wears a white collared shirt and a thin gold-toned chain with a small cross pendant. The work is signed and dated in the lower right corner in dark cursive script reading Valerie 77. The drawing is mounted behind glass in a simple, light-toned wooden frame. Several stickers are applied to the exterior of the glass: a small white rectangular sticker at the bottom left with illegible characters, and an orange rectangular sticker at the top right corner printed with the numbers 234.
Condition report:
The artwork itself appears to be in good condition with no visible signs of foxing, staining, or losses to the friable pastel medium. The wooden frame shows minor scuffs and surface wear consistent with age. There is a layer of fine dust visible behind the glass. Two adhesive auction labels are present on the exterior of the glass (photo 1). The high-gloss glass produces significant reflections in the photograph.
