A pair of cast iron sizzler platters, each of oval form with a single integral handle. The raised borders are relief-cast with stylized foliate scrolls and terminate in a cast bovine head at the base. Each platter is supported by three integral short feet to the underside. The platter on the left has a white rectangular adhesive label on the handle with the handwritten digits 12 and an orange rectangular adhesive label on the interior surface with the handwritten digits 60. The platter on the right has a white rectangular adhesive label on the handle with the handwritten digits 12. No maker’s marks, manufacturer names, or country-of-origin marks are visible.
Condition report:
Both items show significant surface oxidation and orange rust spotting across the flat interiors and decorative borders (photo 1). There is visible pitting and a dark residue consistent with historical culinary use. The casting is coarse throughout.
