Lot 2: An Assortment of Brass Decorative and Functional Objects
An assortment of decorative and functional brassware including a shallow tray, a cylindrical vessel, two candle holders, and a pedestal stand. The tray is of circular form with a wide rim featuring a repetitive foliate relief pattern. A white rectangular adhesive label bearing the number 8 is applied to the centre of the tray. The cylindrical vessel is of tall, polished form with a rolled rim and flat base, possibly a repurposed shell casing. A white rectangular adhesive label marked 14 is positioned near the bottom edge. One candle holder is a pricket candlestick with a turned stem and circular stepped base. A second flared vessel or candle holder features incised chevron decoration around the neck and bears an orange rectangular adhesive label marked 8 on the interior rim. The small pedestal stand includes a turned stem and a circular base with pierced openwork decoration depicting stylized foliate or zoomorphic motifs. A white rectangular adhesive label marked 14 is attached to the openwork base.
Condition report:
All items show varying degrees of surface oxidation, tarnishing, and minor scuffing consistent with age and use (Photo 1). The cylindrical vessel shows significant dark oxidation to the interior (Photo 1). The pedestal stand appears to have a slightly tilted stem (Photo 1). Adhesive residue is visible around the orange label on the flared vessel (Photo 1). The tray exhibits minor surface pitting and light scratching to the interior well (Photo 1).
