Lot 525: A Collection of Miscellaneous Books and Ephemera including Illustrated Literature and a Norton Motorcycle Technical Manual
This collection comprises an assortment of books and ephemera covering literature, technical reference, and collecting guides. Featured is a hardcover edition of The Personal History of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, featuring colour illustrations by Frank Reynolds. The volume is bound in the publisher’s red cloth with gilt-stamped decorative lettering and a circular portrait vignette on the front board. Also present is a hardcover edition of The Teddy Bear Lover’s Companion: Being a Book of Their Life and Times by Ted Menten, complete with its original pictorial dust jacket. For motoring enthusiasts, the lot includes a stapled softcover technical manual titled The First Knocker Norton Scene (All Years SOHC & DOHC), which is a Main-Smith Publication bearing the BMS mark. Condition report:
The collection shows general signs of age and use. The Dickens volume displays significant shelf wear, rubbing to the edges and corners, and fading to the red cloth and spine. The Teddy Bear Lover\'s Companion dust jacket shows minor shelf wear, light creasing to the edges, and surface scuffing. The Norton technical manual is heavily soiled with staining and thumb-marking consistent with workshop use. The Dark Drive book shows significant wear and loss to the spine covering. Other miscellaneous volumes exhibit varying degrees of shelf wear, edge bumping, and foxing.
