JULY AUCTION

Lot 729: Daniel & Arter Collection of Silver Spoons, circa 1880-1920

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises a collection of approximately 11 assorted vintage and antique white metal spoons, including decorative souvenir, tea, and serving examples. A key piece in the group is clearly stamped ‘BRAZILIAN SILVER D&A’ on the reverse of the handle. ‘Brazilian Silver’ was a proprietary trade name for a nickel silver alloy (a base metal combination of copper, nickel, and zinc containing no actual silver content) utilised by the Birmingham-based firm Daniel & Arter. The collection includes various decorative styles such as twisted stems, beaded handle borders, and cast finials, most notably one featuring a standing stag. The items are from the late 19th to early 20th century. The total weight for the lot is 230.58 grams. Valuation basis: recent secondary market results for mixed lots of non-precious metal antique flatware and Daniel & Arter nickel silver items.

Condition report:

The collection is in good vintage condition, showing signs of age and light domestic use. There is general surface tarnishing and micro-scratching throughout. One spoon with a twisted stem appears slightly bent near the junction with the bowl. There is no evidence of heavy metal loss, deep pitting, or structural repairs.
