Lot 723: A Collection of Antique and Vintage Decorative Silver and Silver-Plated Flatware
An assortment of decorative flatware and novelty spoons, primarily of late Victorian and Edwardian styles. The collection includes a large spoon with a repousse floral and scrolled design to the bowl and a heavily decorated foliate handle, alongside an ornate berry spoon featuring a gilt-washed bowl embossed with fruit and a shell-capped handle. Also present is a small sifter spoon with a pierced shell-shaped bowl. The group contains two spoons with carved mother-of-pearl handles and two novelty spoons with twisted metal stems terminated by polished semi-precious stone cabochons, one purple resembling amethyst and one green resembling jade. Other items include a small spoon with a turned dark wood handle and metal ferrule, and various tea and coffee spoons with cast decorative handles in scrolled and foliate patterns. Struck hallmarks are visible on several pieces, including the lion passant and anchor for the Birmingham assay office, indicating a mix of solid sterling silver and silver-plated items.

The items are in used, fair condition. Most pieces exhibit moderate to heavy surface tarnish and oxidation consistent with age. There is general light surface scratching and wear throughout. The mother-of-pearl handles show natural variation and surface dullness but no visible cracks. The wood handle appears stable. The items are loose in a worn orange cardboard box.
