Lot 709: 1916 Birmingham Sterling Silver Stick by Levi and Salaman

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A George V sterling silver mounted stick manufactured by Levi and Salaman, with the pommel hallmarked for Birmingham, 1916. The silver top is of bulbous form with a flat top, decorated with a machine-engraved engine-turned diaper pattern. The silver mounts bear the maker’s mark L&S, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham assay office, and the lowercase date letter r corresponding to the year 1916. The pommel is fitted to a long, tapered hardwood shaft, likely rosewood or mahogany, with a deep brown stained finish. The shaft terminates in a metal ferrule at the base.

Condition report:

The silver pommel shows light surface wear, minor scratches, and some tarnishing consistent with age and handling. There are no significant dents or splits visible in the metalwork. The hardwood shaft has some minor scuffing and small areas of finish loss, but remains straight and structurally sound. The metal ferrule at the base shows significant wear from use.
