Lot 664: George III Mahogany and Marquetry Fold Over Tea Table
An antique George III mahogany fold-over tea table of D-shaped form with canted corners. The piece features a solid mahogany twin-leaf top, with the upper leaf hinged to fold over. The apron is decorated with flame mahogany veneers and boxwood stringing, featuring a central oval marquetry cartouche in light wood with a foliate motif. The table is supported by four square-section tapered legs, each inlaid with boxwood stringing. The construction includes a gate-leg mechanism at the rear to support the top leaf when extended. Small inventory stickers are present: a white rectangular label on the front-left leg and orange circular stickers on the apron.
Condition report:
The table shows signs of age and use consistent with the late 18th century. A prominent dark circular blemish or stain is present on the left side of the fixed top. The top surface displays various light scratches, scuffs, and minor indentations. Fine hairline cracking or crazing is visible on the apron veneers. The legs exhibit minor scuffs and knocks towards the feet. The hinges are intact and functional.
