Lot 600: A Pair of Galvanised Steel Chimney Cowls
A pair of matching industrial chimney cowls, also known as vent caps or louvered vents, constructed from galvanised sheet metal. Each unit features a large square base flashing plate which transitions into a cylindrical flue. The top section is fitted with a series of vertical louvered fins arranged in a circular configuration, capped with a shallow conical lid and secured with a central bolt. The components are assembled using a combination of riveted and bolted construction. One unit retains a small white rectangular paper label marked with the number 11. These items were designed to facilitate exhaust flow while preventing downdraughts and ingress of rain.
Base plates: Approximately 40cm to 50cm square.
Condition report:
These items are in weathered, salvaged condition consistent with outdoor exposure and removal. Both units exhibit significant surface oxidation and areas of active rust, particularly around the lower seams and the edges of the base plates. There are multiple dents and visible distortions to the square flashing plates and the upper louvered fins. The structural integrity appears sound, but they show the typical signs of age and utility associated with architectural salvage.
