Lot 588: Victorian Pine Drop-Leaf Farmhouse Table
A Victorian vernacular farmhouse drop-leaf table constructed from solid pine. The rectangular top comprises a fixed central section and a single hinged drop-leaf attached via iron hinges. The table is supported on four turned wooden legs featuring ring-and-ball and baluster turnings typical of late 19th-century provincial furniture. Faint informal markings are present on the fixed section of the top, including an incised circle bisected by a vertical line and a capital letter D.
Condition report:
The table is in poor to fair condition and requires restoration. The pine top displays heavy staining, water marks, surface scratches, and informal pencil markings. The drop-leaf shows extensive surface abrasion, significant loss of the original finish, deep gouges, and scattered white paint splatters. The iron hinges exhibit heavy surface oxidation and rust. The turned legs show age-related wear, surface scuffing, and accumulated grime.
