Lot 586: Late Victorian Quartersawn Oak Miniature Chest of Three Drawers
A small late Victorian or early 20th-century chest of three drawers constructed from quartersawn oak. The drawer fronts and side panels exhibit prominent medullary rays, often referred to as tiger oak. Each of the three drawers is fitted with a pair of turned wooden knobs. The base of the chest is finished with a decorative scalloped or wavy apron. The primary construction is solid oak, with a secondary softwood, likely pine, used for the back panel and internal drawer components. Two small labels, one white and one yellow, are adhered to the side panel. The piece is of compact proportions, suitable for use as a desktop organiser or miniature chest.
Condition report:
The chest is in fair to good condition, displaying wear consistent with age and use. There are various scuffs, scratches, and surface marks throughout the finish, most notably on the top and side panels. Small white paint splatters are visible on the back panel and around the base. The wood shows some minor natural drying cracks or checks. The finish appears somewhat uneven and worn in several places.
