Lot 475: A Victorian Style Cast Iron and Brass Fireplace Companion Set
A fireplace companion set comprising a decorative central stand and associated tools. The stand is constructed from cast iron with an openwork diamond and scroll-form frame, supported on a weighted tripod base. The set includes a pair of tongs and a poker with a spear-point tip, both featuring wrought iron shafts. A third handle is present, although the tool head, likely a shovel, is missing. The tools are finished with turned and polished brass urn-shaped finials featuring ring-turned detailing. The stand provides integral hooks for the suspension of the tools. A small adhesive tag is attached to one hook with the handwritten notation T.4.

Condition report:
The set is in used condition showing signs of age and regular wear. The black finish on the iron components is worn with scattered chips and surface dust. There is visible surface oxidation and rust on the tip of the poker and along the wrought iron shafts. The brass handles show light tarnish and minor surface scratches consistent with handling. The set is incomplete as one tool head is missing from its handle.
