A pair of large-scale decorative English cast iron cannons on four-wheeled carriages. These ornamental pieces are constructed from heavy cast metal with a dark grey patinated finish. Each carriage is designed with four spoked wheels and features decorative open-work side panels. A rectangular embossed panel on the side of the carriage bears the letters RMI. The barrels feature traditional tapering with multiple reinforces and a rounded cascabel. These items were produced for use as garden ornaments or gatehouse displays.
Condition report:
The pair exhibits evidence of significant long-term outdoor exposure. There is extensive surface oxidation and heavy rust throughout, particularly affecting the wheel rims and hubs. One cannon barrel is detached from the carriage at the trunnions, and there are signs of missing or broken securing hardware.
