Lot 418a: A Vintage Two Section Split-Cane Bamboo Fishing Rod with Hardwood Handle
A vintage two section split-cane bamboo fishing rod of hexagonal construction. The rod features dark red intermediate silk whippings and metal snake guides. It is fitted with metal ferrules for joining the sections. The handle is crafted from a dark turned hardwood with a flared butt and includes metal reel seat fittings. The sections are currently bound together with twine and adhesive tape. No maker’s marks or manufacturer’s transfers are visible.
Condition report:
The rod is presented in used vintage condition. The cane sections appear to be straight without significant sets or fractures. The silk whippings are intact but show surface accumulation of dust and grime. The wooden handle exhibits minor scuffs and marks commensurate with age. There is a blue adhesive tape with the number 7 on the cane and an orange price sticker on the handle.
