Lot 417: British Rail Metal Hand Signal Lamp with Red Bullseye Lens
A vintage British Rail metal hand lamp or signal lamp, constructed from a red-painted iron or steel body. The lamp features a prominent red glass bullseye lens set into a circular mount. One side panel is finished in white paint and displays the blue British Rail double arrow logo, consisting of two parallel horizontal lines with arrowheads pointing in opposite directions. A large, curved metal mounting bracket or handle is fixed to the rear of the unit. The lamp is designed to be a paraffin or kerosene warning light but is currently missing its internal burner and lighting assembly. Two modern identification stickers marked 2 and 47 are affixed to the rusted surface.
Condition report:
The item is in poor, heavily weathered condition. There is extensive surface rust and corrosion over the entirety of the metal casing, with significant paint loss and pitting. The interior and exterior are covered in accumulated dirt, debris, and cobwebs. The internal burner mechanism is missing. The red glass lens appears to be intact but is obscured by grime.
