Lot 367: A Victorian Style Brass Fireplace Companion Set with Stand
A Victorian Neoclassical style fireplace companion set consisting of a stand and three fire tools: a shovel, a pair of tongs, and a poker. The stand is constructed from heavy cast brass, featuring two tiered, rectangular bases with rounded ends supporting four vertical pillars. Each pillar is topped with a decorative urn-shaped finial and joined by two horizontal cross-rails which serve as rests for the tools. The tools themselves feature matching cast brass handles with urn finials. The shovel has a broad, decoratively shaped blade secured with rivets, and the tongs possess a circular spring hinge. The tool shafts are fashioned from iron or steel. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible on the metal. An orange sticker and a small white tag are present on the frame.

Condition report:
The set is in fair used condition with evidence of age and utility. Significant tarnish and oxidation are visible on all brass surfaces, especially the handles and bases. Verdigris is present on the shovel blade and sections of the stand. The iron or steel portions of the tools show surface rust, soot residue, and heat-related discoloration. Scratches and minor dings consistent with regular use are present throughout.
