Lot 178: A Trio of Vintage British Collectables Including Brass Stencils, Educational Card Rack, and Noddy Tin Tray
This lot comprises three vintage items of British origin, including marking tools, educational materials, and a character-themed toy. The first item is a set of interlocking brass stencils housed in a wooden box. The lid of the box is inset with a decorative beaded needlework panel featuring a central floral motif surrounded by scrolling patterns in white, grey, and brown glass beads on a red corded fabric ground, finished with a fringed border. Visible letters in the set include N, Y, and V. The box bears a white adhesive label marked 11. 11 and an orange label marked 178. The second item is an educational alphanumeric card set in a compartmentalised wooden rack. The cards are printed with bold black characters on white stock, with visible characters including 0, 7, L, M, and Y. The upper rail of the wooden rack is hand-incised with the numerals 1 through 8. The third item is a lithographed tinplate toy tray featuring characters by Enid Blyton. Titled Noddy’s Birthday Party, the central design incorporates sheet music and lyrics above a printed piano keyboard. The border features illustrations of characters including Big-Ears and Mr Tubby Bear. The tray is marked TRAY YOU CAN PLAY and MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN.
Condition report:
The wooden stencil box shows significant surface wear and signs of age. The beaded panel on the lid exhibits minor bead loss and fraying at the edges. The brass stencils possess a natural patina and show signs of use. The wooden card rack shows age-related darkening and wear, while the cards show edge wear and handling marks.
